Hi guys, I’m Griffith Jones, but I go by Griff.  I’m from Springfield, Missouri, which makes me close to being southern but not quite yet there.  For perspective, Winter’s Bone is set about an hour from my house, though that’s not a super realistic taste of where I’m from, just a cool movie nerd connection.

I’m a junior here at Whitman, and majoring in Film and Media Studies, though that wasn’t originally the plan.  Taking Intro to Film Studies got me hooked, and I decided I had to at least try more classes.  Since then I’ve taken Intro to Filmmaking, Intro to Television Studies, Japanese Fiction & Film, Advanced Filmmaking, and Hollywood Stardom.  I’m also taking Mad Men in addition to this class, which should be a ton of fun (if a bit more homework heavy than anticipated!).  Needless to say, I don’t plan on going any other route than FMS.  This summer, I had an internship with a camera rental facility and an editing house in L.A.  I learned a lot about technology and the layout of the film industry today, and overall had a pretty good time.  Highlights: L.A. doesn’t suck to live in, I got to go backstage at Jimmy Kimmel, meet Kris Jenner, and I know a lot about what I don’t want to do, which is a valuable insight.

As for my favorite media products, while I love going to the new and talked about movies when they come out, I much prefer watching TV.  I’m one of those people who likes most of the movies they watch, though, so big blockbusters are always pretty fun, and I thought Man of Steel was awesome, so there!  Back to TV, I won’t list all of my favorites, but this summer I watched all of Justified, Breaking Bad (just in time!), Archer, Longmire, and I’m making a dent in Friday Night Lights.  Ever since TV Studies, I’ve found justification to watch TV unashamedly, and honestly I do view it differently now, but I’ve sort of gone off the handle binge watching series.  “It’s for my major!” Heh…
