My name is Tom Barber, I am a Junior and a Film and Media Studies major. I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska though recently I have only returned for the winter months. This summer I had an internship with Rick Stevenson during which I assisted with his summer Prodigy Camp. I mostly observed but I feel like I gained a better understanding of what goes in to the making of a film, even a short film.
Film really captured me before I came to Whitman but I didn’t understand why until after I took Introduction to Film Studies and the world shifted before my eyes. After immersing myself in gaming culture this summer I have decided I want to walk the path of video games. Like film, video games are a combination of so many different products of culture combined into one experience. Music, videography, programming, story structure, all these things exist in a video game and it is this combination that fascinates and excites me.
Other than Introduction to Film Studies I have taken Gender in the Media and I am currently taking Introduction to Film Making.
